112 Emergency Number Awareness Campaign Launch

Only 27% of European citizens recognize 112 as the default emergency service number to call within the EU, with a full 70% lacking information on the emergency hotline from sources in their own country.
With international mobility, and travel on the rise within the EU, awareness of the common European emergency number has become a priority.European Parliament Vice-President, Mrs. Adina-Ioana Valean, in close cooperation with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) has launched a far-reaching campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the 112 hotline among travellers across Europe.
Among other measures, airports and airlines have been invited to display promotional material, such as posters and banners, in key areas, including departure gates, information desks and airport exits, as well as on in-flight magazines, websites and airline brochures. International airlines have also been invited to add an announcement when landing informing passengers about 112 emergency number. (…)
