European Commission to make a huge investment for the improvement of the truck-safe network
The EU’s ambitious truck-safe network across the TEN-T core network corridors to benefit from a €60million investment.

The European Union’s plans for a safe truck park every 100km of the TEN-T core network corridors has received a huge financial boost, with €60million being made available under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The money will also improve the safety, security, and services of existing rest areas.
€20million is available for all member states, with €40million reserved for Cohesion Fund countries.
An EU study found that the lack of safe truck parking was a concern for almost 90% of drivers and transport operators. There are currently only 300,000 parking spaces in the EU, which means a deficit of 100,000 spaces. Of these available spaces, less than 3% (only 7,000) are certified as safe and secure.
The cost of road freight crime is a common problem across Europe, with the losses incurred within the EU estimated to be around €8.2billion annually. There are several knock-on effects of this level of crime, with road transport facing a major shortage of drivers. Therefore, investment in safe and secure truck stops across the TEN-T core network is hugely important for transportation companies, international organizations, and society as a whole.
